It's the DB9 Again....

Well my 2007 DB9 has just gone through a couple of periods in the dealers. The first was to have the plugs changed as it had thrown up a 'Emission Service Required' error message, yellow engine light and would throw a wobbly with a red light if I booted it, saying words to the effect of 'drive slowly - service required'. The car had just gone past 60,000 miles so I bit the bullet and had the plugs changed along with the three coil packs on the cylinders that which the EMS said had misfires. As far as I can tell the plugs were original as were the coil packs. I took the approach that it was worth gambling on the coil packs, as at £100 a piece I didn't want to spend £1200 on all 12 when maybe only some were failing. All was good for a few miles - about 100 in total - and then the dreaded 'Emission Service Required' message re-emerged, this time with another cylinder misfiring. So my gamble didn't pay off - I've just had the remaining 9 coil packs replaced. Doh. An expensive lesson learned but the gamble was worth a try in my mind..

However while it was in I had the gearbox and diff oil changed - again I had no evidence that either had been changed and every so often I would have a nasty 'feeling' from the diff when pulling away on a corner as it the diff was locking up. That 'feeling' has now gone and the gearbox seems smoother and nicer so a good result from the transmission end. The dealers said they had used a Kendall diff oil additive which had sorted the problem on a number of other DB9s they had seen.

Seems to have done the job. So my pocket is a lot lighter but the car is running and driving really nicely - feels like new - and it got a good deep clean from the specialist as well!
